A Farm in Glen Arbor AreaThe Glen Arbor area was the first settled on the Leelanau County mainland (the Manitou Islands were settled first). It is home to Big and Little Glen Lake, judged by many as among the most beautiful lakes in the world. The town of Glen Arbor is home to numerous artists and to the Glen Arbor Artists Association. Much of the township is within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which provides a protection for the continued beauty of the area. The town has two grocery stores, public beaches, a public library, a boat shop on Glen Lake, two hardware stores and numerous restaurants and shops. Churches include the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist and the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church.

Empire
Empire was once the largest town in Leelanau County. Though the logging industry which fueled that boom is long gone, Empire retains a strong sense of history. It is home to an amazing museum and the future location of a maritime history museum. The National Lakeshore Park Headquarters are in Empire as well as a very nice ball diamond and a public park between South Bar Lake and Lake Michigan. Empire has Deering's Market, a public library, a hardware store and several shops.
