At the northern tip of Leelanau County, Northport was the gateway to Grand Traverse Bay. Today, the village of Northport boasts a fine harbor and park, full service grocery and many stores (including 6 antique shops!). The hills around Northport are filled with cherry and apple orchards. Leelanau State Park (home to the historic and well restored Grand Traverse Light) sits at the tip of the Peninsula. Other parks include Peterson Park and the Leelanau Conservancy's Kehl Lake Preserve. Churches include the bethany Lutheran Church, the Northport Evangelical Covenant Church, St. Gertrude's Church and St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
